FRACTIONS:

Some drugs have dosages expressed in fractions of a grain. Some calculations will involve fractions, and it is important for you to have the ability to perform all mathematical procedures with fractions, whole numbers, and decimals.

1. A fraction consists of two parts:

• The number above the line is called the NUMERATOR
• The number below the line is called the DENOMINATOR.

Example:

(1) What is the numerator in 6/7? The numerator in 6/7 is 7.

(2) What is the numerator in 5/4? The numerator in 5/4 is 5.

(3) What is the denominator in 7/8? The denominator in 7/8 is 8.

(4) What is the denominator in 12/5? The denominator in 12/5 is 5.
