Acid Having W/W % Concentration

* Weight / Weight percent may be changed to a Weight / Volume percent by using the follow formula:

A. FORMULA:

    % W / V = % W / W x Specific Gravity of % W / W Acid

Note: The % W / W is converted to a % W / V because the specific gravity of the % W / W acid is normally on the bottle in which it is issued.

Example:

1. How many ml of hydrochloric acid ( 36.5 % w / w) would be needed to make on liter of dilute hydrochloric acid ( 10% w/v)
    The specific of HCl = 1.18)

Solve:

 % W / V = % W / W x Specific Gravity of % W / W Acid
% W / V = 36.5 x 1.18
% W / V = 43
Therefore:

36.5% W / W = 43 % W / V

Then

V C = V1 C1

V ( 43% W / V)  = 1000 ml ( 10% W / V)
V (43)                 =  10,000 ml
V                        =  232.6 ml
